Tom Brady Goes to the Superbowl Every Other Year

Here’s a fun fact for you to marinate on this weekend.  Tom Brady has nearly completed his 10th NFL season and will compete in his 5th Superbowl.  In other words, he’s going to the big game 50% of the time and winning them at a .750 clip (3-1).  Chew on that Peyton, Eli,
Rodgers or whomever.

In full disclosure, this is Tom’s 12th NFL season but he didn’t start his first season or in 2008 when he tore his ACL.  Boom 9 days, go Pats.

AFC Championship Flyover

For most of the season we’ve all seen the banners and signs of MHK and anyone that has moderately followed the Pats this season is aware of the impact owner Robert Kraft’s late wife Myra has had on the team.  The banner and signs honoring her were taken to another level before last Sunday’s AFC championship battle by displaying her initials on the wing  along with a “Go Pats” logo on the underbelly of the aircraft that performed a flyover at Gillette as the Star Spangled Banner was wrapping up.

Most of us watching it on tv probably missed it, blinded by Steven Tyler’s diamond studded Pats scarf.  Go Pats!

Red Sox vs Padres – Series Preview

San Diego Padres (30-43) vs Boston Red Sox (43-28)
Fenway Park, June 20th-22nd

Adrian Gonzalez faces his former team for the first time since the big trade as the the Sox host the Padres.  Tough timing for the Padres who come in losing their last 5 to face the scorching Sox winner of 13 of their last 15.  Additionally poor for San Diego is the inability to win an interleague game thus far, 0-6 this year.

Probables:
LHP Wade LeBlanc (0-2, 4.26 ERA) at LHP Andrew Miller (0-0)
RHP Mat Latos (4-8, 4.06 ERA) at RHP Josh Beckett (6-2, 1.86 ERA)
LHP Clayton Richard (2-9, 4.35 ERA) at RHP John Lackey (5-5, 7.02 ERA)

The Good:
Papi, Adrian, Dusty, the entire Sox offense.  Papi is batting .490 during his current 13 game hit streak.  Dusty has raised his average 30 points over his last 12, his average still needs some work and we hope he keeps up this torrid pace.  Adrian is just being Adrian and is averaging over an RBI a game over the past 15 while hitting .400+.  Not sure this is even a streak for him or just a continuation of his season pace, I expect we’ll see his name quite a bit in this category.

The Bad:
The Padres offense.  Team is batting .231, not surprisingly that ranks 29th in MLB.  Enough said.  JD Drew, just a flat out bum.  We all know this, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel that we aren’t even upset with his pathetic .225 a

verage.

Unknown:
Andrew Miller and Anthony Rizzo.  Miller gets the minor league call-up to make his first start of the season on Monday.  Overall the Sox seem high on Miller.  The former Tar Heel ace and NCAA runner-up champion last started for the Marlins last year, not favorably putting up a post 8 ERA and leading to a trade and release.  Also in the forefront is one of the key players of the Adrian deal, Anthony Rizzo along with Casey Kelly.  Rizzo recently has gotten his call, still only 27 ab’s in his MLB career.  Lots of promise with Rizzo and could  very well fit nicely into the man sized shoes left behind at first by Adrian, but he’s still getting his feet wet.

Standings:
Padres come in dead last in the NL West, 9.5 games back from both the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks.  Sox are the AL East leaders by 2 games over the Yanks.
